Clusterpoint Server core database management system (DBMS) software is distributed in binary format, it runs natively under Linux/FreeBSD/MacOS and can be downloaded from the Internet, our software installation section:

Download and Use Free of Charge for 30-Days Under Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License

Clusterpoint Server database platform (DBMS) software is distributed over Internet under the Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License .  You can download the software from our Web site Download section or from other Internet sites hosting Clusterpoint DBMS software.  We did make it a very simple procedure: you can download, install and use fully functional Clusterpoint DBMS cluster software for testing and development period 30-days free of charge and without registration.

The Clusterpoint DBMS software when installed from the downloaded package will be automatically activated under the default Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License and you can use it for any functionality testing.  All software features are always enabled and there are no limitations except legal use terms of the Evaluation License.  Software can be freely installed and configured to work in cluster configurations on multiple servers.  We do not limit number of servers per cluster, maximum size of the database, number of mirror copies of a database or number of users. You can use all software features, including clustering features, to test-drive this software for 30-days period under the Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License. 

Please note, that by downloading and installing the Clusterpoint DBMS software you agree to Clusterpoint License Agreement, which covers also Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License terms.  If you installed the software and started to use it, it is assumed that you have read and agreed to Clusterpoint License Agreement.   You can read it on our Web site and it is also included with each of our software installation packages.  It covers conditions and terms for the Evaluation License described below:

• You can download, install and use fully functional Clusterpoint DBMS software for testing and development period 30-days free of charge. During the evaluation period all cluster features are covered by this license and there is no limitations on number of servers per cluster or number of mirror copies of a database.  During this period you can use the software in public or corporate applications testing and evaluating it for any performance requirements, any network setups, any data volumes, any number of databases, on any hardware etc.;
• After 30-day evaluation period, if you want to continue to use database software, you must obtain one of those Clusterpoint DBMS licenses: Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License, Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server License,  Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster License or Clusterpoint DBMS Site License.  You must register the license in License Registration form and chose the license depending on the intended use of Clusterpoint software and number of licenses needed.  Otherwise you have to stop using Clusterpoint DBMS software functionality.  
• You can still use the Clusterpoint DBMS software for free on a single server under the Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License usage terms, obtaining this free license usage rights through our Web site License Registration form.  If you continue to use downloaded Clusterpoint DBMS software after evaluation period without proper license registration, including Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License, then you are violating the terms of our software usage service and may face the same consequences as if your would use any other commercial software without license;
• You can include the Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License software in your OEM products for testing and evaluation for the same period - 30 days;
• If you download and install the Clusterpoint DBMS software package, you agree to Clusterpoint License Agreement.

Free Community License

After free Clusterpoint DBMS Software Download and 30-days evaluation period you can register and obtain permanent Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License and continue to use your installed copy of Clusterpoint DBMS for free on a single hardware server per organization or per project.  

For a single-server use the software is provided under our FREEMIUM software model, where fully functional Clusterpoint Server software can be used as a freeware database platform if run on a single hardware server or a single virtual machine.  Under this developers-friendly freemium software distribution model you can use Clusterpoint DBMS for any types of your IT projects: private, community or commercial.  If you need to use the software on more than a single server in cluster configuration (e.g., with database mirroring or striping), you should upgrade to Clusterpoint DBMS commercial license.   In short, under Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License you can use the software without clustering across multiple servers functionality.  Yet there are no limits on database size, number of users nor maximum limits for data volume capacity: "eat everything" what your server hardware can support.

Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License is essentially a FREEWARE software use license that requires you to publish a Clusterpoint Reference Link on the Internet and can not be re-sold or included as OEM license; for your packaged products and solutions you have to obtain normal commercial Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server license for use on a single server (then Clusterpoint Reference Link is not required). The same rule applies to your customers to whom you may supply solutions with Clusterpoint Server software included: then your customer organization should publish Clusterpoint Reference Link on its Web site and obtain Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License registration from us to qualify for free use.

Take even more advantages of our database software licensing as freeware under the Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community license.  It is not exposing your commercial applications to unnecessary legal risks of open source GPL type licensing that possibly may be requiring you to open some of your software source code for public use too. Besides Clusterpoint DBMS is a well-engineered commercially supported DBMS and does not have open-source related development support and  bug-fixing problems usually solved within their own community framework and schedule, with your interests as second thought at best.  You can also buy Premium Technical Support for Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License (which is free if used on a single server) and get professional and timely technical support form us, including software development support, from our dedicated team of Clusterpoint DBMS core engine developers and technical support people.  This level of support is indispensable for mission critical production environments typical in modern enterprises.

Please note, that this type of Clusterpoint database platform software FREEMIUM license is the community license strictly limited for use on a single server (virtual machine).   The terms and conditions for Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License use are the following:

• It can be used for free in cluster-less database projects and for development, provided than no more than a single hardware server per organization or per project is installed and running Clusterpoint Server database software; there is no usage rights of clustering functionality covered under the Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License;
• Under the Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License only one copy of the Clusterpoint DBMS software can be installed and run per project, where the project is defined as an Web application of distinctive functionality having its own Web site (multiple server installations per project are not permitted under the Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community license, even if they are not using clustering functionality);  If you are system integrator or Web developer company, you can also use Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License in a single copy on your project development server for free, under the same terms of this license, in parallel to the running production server copy of Clusterpoint DBMS software under the free or commercial licenses.
• You must be a Registered User with valid email, filling out our simple software License Registration Form to apply and receive a customized License Registration file for your Free Community License;
• To qualify legally for Free Community License, you need to publish Clusterpoint Reference Link in a free text format with an Internet link referencing Clusterpoint, pointing to our company Web site www.clusterpoint.com, placing the link somewhere on your Web site (e.g., in your 'Partners' section or in a database search form).  This section of your web site must be accessible for Internet search engines for indexing;  You should also have a uniquely numbered License Registration file located in the same directory as your Clusterpoint DBMS software. • There is no limitation of number of users, number of databases served or amount of data stored when used on a single server under Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License;
• This License does not permit to use full database mirroring feature on multiple cluster nodes, it does not permit database striping feature distributing documents among multiple hardware nodes (distributed database setup), and it does not permit synchronization of database updates in any types of cluster.  If you later need this cluster functionality, then Clusterpoint Free Community License should  be upgraded to Cluster License just by purchasing the required number of cluster software licenses over the Internet.   There is no need to reinstall the software or create new databases if you decide later to upgrade.  The process is as simple as copying your License Registration file into Clusterpoint DBMS software directory to upgrade legally our free license usage rights to the new Cluster license covering the full-fledged cluster usage rights for required number of servers;
• You may use Clusterpoint DBMS software for any public non-commercial, commercial or business applications under the Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License, providing all license terms described above are met;
• For Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License we provide Basic Technical Support service over email.  We would welcome your questions, comments and feedback about Clusterpoint software and our services.  Please send them to Clusterpoint Support Email.

Types of Commercial Licenses

Please note that cluster functionality of Clusterpoint DBMS software use requires that you obtain commercial license. 

The rule is very simple: as soon as there are more than one server in your organization per project installed with Clusterpoint DBMS, you need to upgrade from the Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License (or expired Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License) to the Cluster license with required number of servers or Site license (unlimited number of servers).  Commercial license is also required for a single server use, if you do not want to publish on your Web site Clusterpoint Reference Link.

You can still use Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License on a single server without obtaining commercial Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server License, while you publish Clusterpoint Reference Link on your web site on the web page accessible for indexing by Internet search engines.

Understanding richness of business models preferred by our customers with respect to software licensing, we are providing several types of commercial software licenses for Clusterpoint DBMS.   Particular license usage rights  you can order through License Registration form from us, without re-installation of the evaluation software or free community license software again.  There are the following Clusterpoint DBMS commercial licenses:

• Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server License: for commercial use on a single server, no clustering usage covered (for that you would need Cluster License or Site license), does not require publishing of Clusterpoint Reference Link to Clusterpoint Web site, can be resold or packaged as a solution to end-customer,  includes 1-year Software Maintenance support; see pricing information in section Buy.
• Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster License for N Servers: classic enterprise commercial software license, starting from 2-servers, can include free 1-year Premium Technical support Bronze package and 1-year Software Maintenance; see pricing information in section Buy.
• Clusterpoint DBMS Site License: enterprise-wide annual volume licensing from 10 servers and up, commercial license, unlimited number of servers per site, includes 1-year Premium Technical Support Silver package up to 10 servers, 1-year software maintenance support for unlimited number of servers, does not include other types of premium support (other premium support services price is contractual, based on number of actually installed servers); see pricing information in section Buy.
• Clusterpoint DBMS OEM license: for products including Clusterpoint database software as part of their application solutions for a specific functionality, for pricing information please contact Clusterpoint Sales Email. 

We do not provide open source software licenses. However, for developers and small business community our Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License can be sufficient for most of Web projects: it is essentially a freeware. 

Single Server License

Unlike Free Community License, Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server License can be installed and used on a single server commercially in production environment and there is no need to publish Clusterpoint Reference Link on the customer Web site. 

If Clusterpoint DBMS downloaded software is being continued to be used after 30-day evaluation period commercially on a single server, we charge a small license fee to transform its usage rights for a single server commercial use, without publishing of the Clusterpoint Reference Link.   After payment, the license becomes permanent. 

• It can be used as permanent license in cluster-less database projects and for development, provided than no more than a single hardware server per organization or per project is installed and running Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server Licensed software;
• You must be a registered Clusterpoint user with valid email, filling out our customer Registration Form to apply and receive Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server License usage rights.  Alternatively please just send us email with your enquiry to Customer Support Email;
• There is no limitation of number of users, number of databases served, amount of data stored, amount of computer RAM or number of CPUs, when used on a single server under Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server license;
• There are no usage of clustering features for an Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server software covered by this type of license. 
• This License does not permit to use full database mirroring feature on multiple cluster nodes, it does not permit database striping feature distributing documents among multiple hardware nodes (distributed database setup), and it does not permit synchronization of database updates in any types of cluster.  
• the license can be re-sold or repackaged for use in customer application or integrated solution supplied to customer;
• This license can be upgraded to commercial Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster License just by submitting request through our License Registration Form and purchasing software usage rights, with a new License Registration File 'license.xml' delivered to your email over the Internet.   There is no need to reinstall the software or create new databases if you decide later to upgrade.  The process is as simple as copying your License Registration file 'license.xml. into the Clusterpoint DBMS /config directory to legally upgrade the Clusterpoint DBMS Single Server license usage rights to full-fledged Clusterpoint  DBMS Cluster License or Clusterpoint DBMS Site license usage rights. 

Please note that licensing is purely legal agreement for specific types of software use: we do not limit cluster functionality in software and it will be present even in Clusterpoint Free Community Licensed software or Clusterpoint Single Server Licensed software.  

If you decide to use clustering functionality later, you are welcome to upgrade to Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster License or Clusterpoint DBMS Site License at any time. 

Cluster License for N Servers

Classic enterprise software commercial license, starts from 2-servers in a cluster, covers usage rights for all clustering features, including database mirroring and striping up to the licensed number of servers.  The license supports the following usage rights:

• must be obtained, if you use Clusterpoint DBMS software commercially on more than one single hardware server or virtual machine, starting from 2 to N servers or virtual machines;
• covers full usage rights for any clustering options, including one-click cluster-wide configuration changes and management on up to N servers or virtual machines;
• covers full usage rights for full database mirroring into multiple copies up to N servers or virtual machines;
• set up and operations of a distributed database, which we call database striping, where parts of database (shards) are stored and managed on different cluster nodes, however, Clusterpoint software provides API access for developers logically working only with a single database, no need to build database partitioning logic into application software; covers Clusterpoint DBMS usage rights from 2 up to N hardware servers or virtual machines;
• mirroring of two or more identically striped databases running on separate cluster hardware setups, which can be useful feature for high-availability, for example, running in different data centers hosted database mirror copies; covers usage rights from 2 up to N servers or virtual machines, together across all installation sites;
• automatic synchronization of databases inserts, updates, deletes among cluster nodes, covers usage rights from 2 up to N servers or virtual machines, together across all installation sites;
• the license can be re-sold or repackaged for use in customer application or integrated solution supplied to customer;
• You must be a registered Clusterpoint user with valid email, filling out our customer Registration Form to apply and receive Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster License usage rights.  Alternatively please just send us email with your enquiry to Customer Support Email.

You can download and test-drive Clusterpoint software during 30-days evaluation period in any applications handling virtually unlimited data volumes, in any cluster configuration you decide to set up.  After evaluation period for continuing use of cluster functionality you should purchase specific Clusterpoint commercial license depending on total number of server licenses you may need in your organization.  Please see more information about Clusterpoint DBMS software test driving in section Clusterpoint Evaluation License.

Purchase of the commercial Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster License for N servers gives you permanent rights of use the Clusterpoint Server software on specified N number of computers in one organization.  Servers covered by this type of licensing can be located in a single or different data centers.  The Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster License is not terminated or limited in time.

Site License

Commercial enterprise site-wide license, can be installed on a undefined number of servers per one location up to certain mutually agreed theoretical maximum number of servers that can be installed per year per site (e.g. 20, 50, 100 or 1000).  Please note that this number is set large enough for our customers to feel safe, without the need to renegotiate each extra server license purchase.  This type of licensing also provides large volume discounts and is cost-effective above 10 servers.

Purchased for one year. After that period, if the customer still needs to expand its servers park beyond previously agreed theoretical maximum number number of servers or use our economic support services provided for the Site License,  the Clusterpoint DBMS Site Licensing contract has to be renewed.  Please note that Clusterpoint DBMS Site license can be agreed to be issued with non-transferable to 3rd parties and fully transferable usage rights, according to our customer requirements and our mutual agreement.

The Clusterpoint DBMS Site License is provided as Clusterpoint DBMS software volume licensing option for customers who:

• customer needs performance or database size scaling with substantial number of servers in cluster;
• do not know a priori how many servers in a cluster they would need to run and maintain their databases, can make only approximate theoretical estimates;
• want to be sure that there would not be budget overrun if more than initially planned number of servers is used;
• want to establish additional extra mirrored copies of the full database along the growth of performance and number of users, requiring new extra servers at some point of developing business, at no extra cost;
• using hosted cloud services, with elastic capacity expansion environment to required number of servers.

Please note that Clusterpoint Site License is sold for one year, after that period, if the customer still needs to expand its server capacity, or want to use Clusterpoint DBMS Software Maintenance service for all of installed servers park, or use our economic Premium Technical Support Silver Package service for up to 10 servers, which are all included into Clusterpoint DBMS Site License minimum annual cost at no extra charge (otherwise Premium Technical Support must be purchased separately for exact N number of servers) , Clusterpoint DBMS Site License should be renewed annually. 

If Site License is not renewed, it is always later possible to buy extra Cluster Licenses for exact installed number of extra servers and also buy separately Software Maintenance and Premium Technical Support services for each installed server. 

Servers covered by this type of licensing can be located in a single data center or in a single site.  If you need this type of licensing for multiple data centers, each location running Clusterpoint DBMS software under the Site License terms, must be licensed separately.

Also please note, that additional Premium Technical Support services (Silver, Gold or Platinum) can be also provided for an agreed actual number of servers installed (naturally, as each server brings extra tech support work).  For example, if our customer of Clusterpoint DBMS Site License uses only 20 servers installed with Clusterpoint software, but Site License provides theoretical maximum to install up to 100 servers, Premium Silver, Premium Gold and Premium Platin support services can be purchased and will be charged for those 20 servers only.

Site license can also be issued in customized way with agreed maximum total number of permanent and transferable server licenses.  Please note, that in customized Site license all previously under the Site License installed Clusterpoint servers up to the mutually agreed maximum total number of servers for a particular Site license, can also be used by our customers permanently, even if standard Clusterpoint DBMS Site license with included software maintenance subscription and premium support services is not renewed annually.  This type of customizable site licensing enables to transfer the Clusterpoint DBMS based software systems, for example, if the customer company is sold, without decreasing the value of your business.  Please contact Clusterpoint Customer Service for customized Clusterpoint DBMS Site licensing prices and terms.

OEM License

Special conditions are available for OEM manufacturers who want to include Clusterpoint Server software with their own hardware or packaged software solutions.

Types of Non-commercial Licenses

For non-commercial organizations and communities we can grant upon request the following non-commercial licenses, at low cost or at no cost:

• Clusterpoint DBMS Academic License:  license for educational and research organizations, free or discounted Cluster software license; for pricing information please contact Clusterpoint Sales Email;
• Clusterpoint DBMS Non-profit license: discounted or granted for free cluster software license for non-profit or community projects requiring cluster functionality, available upon request from us; for pricing information please contact Clusterpoint Sales Email

 

Academic License

For universities and other educational organizations we can grant a discounted or free license of Clusterpoint software for training and educational purposes. We will evaluate each application and will grant the license from case to case bases.

In order to ask us to use Clusterpoint software for educational purposes you have to register yourself as educational user and clearly state your educational qualification.

Registration for Clusterpoint use for Educational Purposes can be done by filling in Clusterpoint Registration Form.

Non-Profit License

Usually the same discounted or free license conditions can be asked from us by certain non-profit organizations such as charities, public Internet communities, or other similar organizations. 

Licensing for Virtual Machines

If you run Clusterpoint Server software in virtualized environments, it is possible to run multiples cluster nodes on the same hardware (for example, to speed up indexing on multiple-processor hardware by partitioning of database content), but then you need to obtain as many Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster Licenses as your virtual cluster nodes.  Each virtual machine should then have its own server software license. 

Software Subscription (SAAS)

Commercial use of Clusterpoint DBMS software can be paid in either of those three ways:

• as a permanent non-exclusive software license:  for customers preferring up-front investments or re-sell of products rights of use (e.g. packaging into integrated solution); also for free version software licenses when used on a single server;
• as an annual subscription fee for software use: for customers preferring software use under subscription services model with support included, can not be re-sold or re-packaged, license valid from the first upfront payment and is being automatically terminated upon end of subscription period;in this way our customers can get reliable and well-supported commercial database software actually paying for software use over the longer term, and accounting for it as a pure services or license rental cost; There is no up-front license cost when Clusterpoint software is used in subscription licensing model, however, the minimum contract period is 1 year.
• software-as-a-services (SAAS) model: subscribe for Clusterpoint database platform use where software is hosted in our company data center or data centers of our partners and we take care of database platform setup, maintenance and monitoring for your specific business application.  We can also provide gradual payment schedule as a single monthly support services cost, including also application specific workload, capacity and performance monitoring services.  There is no up-front license cost when Clusterpoint software is used in SAAS licensing model, however, the minimum contract period is 1 year.

Clusterpoint Licensing Advantages

Clusterpoint DBMS software is licensed per hardware server only.  We license only the total number of server in a cluster you would like to use with Clusterpoint Software or we issue a site-wide license (for unlimited number of servers).  This licensing model makes the rational sense as Clusterpoint DBMS is a generic cluster server software (same copy on all cluster nodes) and cluster-based per-server licensing model is easily understood by our customers.

Unlike many other commercial DBMSes, there is no licensing limitations or restrictions per server with Clusterpoint that depend on:

• number of CPU processors per server
• amount of RAM
• system architecture (32-bit or 64-bit)
• disk subsystem
• networking interface speed

Please note that for our software licensing terms and conditions a 'server' is a hardware server or a virtual machine.  

If you run multiple virtual machines per single hardware server with Clusterpoint Server software, you have to obtain licensing for each of Clusterpoint Server software installation within those virtual machines. 

There is no licensing usage limits and restrictions for Clusterpoint Server software when its copy runs on a hardware server (e.g., on a cluster node).  We do not charge extra money and do not limit our DBMS software use depending on:

• total database size
• total number of documents per server or in cluster
• total amount of data per server or in cluster
• total number of transactions per day per server
• total number of users per server
• total number of databases per server
• total number of different applications per server

We do not limit amounts of data or number of users by license.  We charge only for the use of software and you are free to install it on any hardware. 

Client Software Licensing: None

There is no need to purchase and install any client access licenses to work with Clusterpoint Server.   Use your existing programming language and XML-based open Clusterpoint API to directly access and manage your databases.  We also supply sample client access code in most popular programming languages such as PHP, Java, C, please see Samples.  However, you can develop your own wrap-ups (libraries of functions) in different programming languages, around Clusterpoint's easy to use XML-only and web protocols http/https based API.

This is a significant our DBMS advantage over many commercial database software systems based on servers.  Many legacy systems still require you to purchase specified number of client access licenses, then pay also for client software upgrades, buy service contracts with support for this client software, and manage version compatibility issues with client software on different operating system platforms.

 With Clusterpoint you license only number of production copies of database server software and do not worry about client software at all.  It is very simple un understandable licensing and could save you nice money. 

License Agreement

Before the use of any Clusterpoint software you have to agree to conditions described in Clusterpoint License Agreement.  If you started to use it, we can assume you have read the licensing terms and agreed to them.

Our software licensing model is legal agreement for specific types of Clusterpoint DBMS software licenses you choose to use: we do not limit software functionality among different licenses and the same functionality will be present in Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community Licensed software or Clusterpoint DBMS commercially licensed software.

Clusterpoint DBMS software download and installation comes under Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License terms.  When you download and install the software for the first time, you agree to those terms automatically.  Other explicit agreement of the particular type of license terms and conditions gives you permanent rights of use the Clusterpoint Server software on specified number of computers in one organization under that particular license terms described in Clusterpoint License Agreement.  Please note that Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License and all types of commercial Licenses are not terminated in time.

Clusterpoint API, client sample software in different programming languages, community forum tips and know-how, are open source, freeware or free software.  We also encourage our partners building commercially distributed utilities and tools, frameworks, add-ons for Clusterpoint DBMS and we commit to provide marketing and sales leads for those products, including references from our Web site.  See Partnerships.

Please note, that Clusterpoint Applications each has their own separate commercial license, which differs from the database platform software license, and can not be used under Clusterpoint DBMS Free Community License, Clusterpoint DBMS Evaluation License or Clusterpoint DBMS Cluster license.  Although each application can be driven by a fully-functional Clusterpoint DBMS, there are different licensing models due to the industry and application specific licensing practice, that often depends on a customer network setup and performance requirements, or other factors.
